Crocheted phone pouches

Long weekend begins today! While searching for things to do (like updating my blog) for the next few days, I came across an easy tutorial on creating phone pouches on youtube.  Here's what I managed to finish.

Crochet Thread Lace Scarf

I believe it was a couple of years ago that I posted something about crochet threads.  I never got to finish that one.  It was a beret made with crochet thread and it takes a lot longer to make than using a regular yarn.  Its thin and the loops when making it is much smaller that I needed some time to get used to doing it.

My sister had been creating yarn projects too since last year and she created a lace scarf that I quite fancy and thought it'd be perfect with crochet threads instead of yarn.  A long weekend is coming my way because of the Papal Visit in the Philippines and I thought this is a good project for those days I will be at home.  Here's what I've done so far.

Mt. Daraitan

Last week, one of my friends who love to travel and do random plans of going somewhere, invited me to hike a mountain.  Mt. Daraitan in Tanay, Rizal.

Of course, ME who wants to become a nomad / adventurous / "take me wherever you'll go, I'm always game" / "conquer your fear" / "you only live once" kind of person said YES.  Little did I know that the trail of this mountain is for super adventurous people and experienced hiker/trekker.  You know, those ones who really LIKE those steep, dangerous, tough to hike mountains trails.

Gah! I almost thought we would never get out of there.  I have to admit I was a bit scared.  And some of the friends I was with admitted that too.  Let me tell you some of the reasons why our hike was difficult.

1.  Most of us are first time hikers - If you've been reading my blog for some time now,  I'm pretty sure I mentioned that I don't really like hiking the mountains.  I was in for the view.  And the clouds.  And the fresh air.  I appreciate nature, I really do.  I think God's creation is there for every human in this world to see and I'm very thankful every time I was given an opportunity to see it.  I'm just not that enthusiastic with the whole hiking stuff.

We went there through an invitation from a hiker on Facebook.  My friend is the one who's in contact with them and he invited me and some of our friends to join the group.  Some of us are first time hikers including myself (I've only hiked once.  Last year , with my sweetness and a friend hiked Taal Volcano).  So imagine our confused faces when our guide told us that the trail involve slopes ranging from 60 to 90 degrees.  "I mean, Man! Come on!"  My mind sort of thought that and shrugged off the feeling that this might be a gigantic mistake.  I just told my self  "NO, you're going to do this.  You're going to get through this.  The view at the top is worth it"  And I was right.  The view at the top is definitely worth it. =)

2.  It was raining - Although it didn't rain continuously,  the trail is very slippery because of the mud.  When I hiked Taal Volcano 6 months ago,  it was scorching hot because of the sun and the trail is sandy not muddy.  So this is a first for us too.  The angle of the mountain slopes is difficult enough let alone be it muddy on the day we hiked the mountains.  -_______-  So the difficulty going down is twice  the level of difficulty going up.  I actually enjoyed the hike going up but the trail going down is scary especially in the dark.  Yes, that's right.  We were not able to climb up on schedule.  It was supposed to be for 3 hours only but our group took almost 5 hours to get to the summit.  And we're supposed to go Tinipak river but we run out of time.

3.  Descended late in the afternoon - Because most of us are first time hikers and the trail was slippery,  it took us almost 5 hours to reach the summit.  That is way way over than the supposed scheduled time because this was a day tour only.  When it was time for our descend, it was already late in the afternoon.  I remember expecting to get to the foot of the mountain before the sun sets but to no avail.  The trail is slippery, my mind is exhausted and so is my body.  We started our ascend at 9:00 am.  Got to the summit at approximately 1:30 pm, had our lunch and started our descend at 2:30 pm.  Guess what time we made it down the mountain?  8:00 PM! (✖╭╮✖) I remember slipping several times when I hiked Taal but this time I only slipped once during our descend but it was one heavy fall.  TT.TT  It was tough.  Probably the toughest and I'm just getting started!

Climbed Mt. Daraitan last saturday.. I still can't believe we made it out alive O.O

It was hard, challenging and exhausting but I can proudly say that I conquered one of the toughest to climb mountains in the Philippines!  Too bad I wasn't able to take photos during our ascend and descend because seriously, both of my hands are grabbing whatever they can while trekking down.  I don't really want to accidentally drop my camera in the cliff now, don't I?  My friend is planning to return for the Tinipak River and I hope when that time comes it'd be a bit easier for me.  No rain please. >.<

How about you?  Which mountain did you hike that gave you the toughest experience?

This book is one of the gifts I received last Christmas.  There's no better way than wrecking something up after you've had a long tiring day.. Anyways, I just want to share with you my copy of Wreck this Journal by Keri Smith.  I saw the many editions of this book at a bookstore last year and got very interested. So I listed it in my wish list and voila! My wish is my {generous gift giver}'s command =)

Oh hello there! Now I know I took a {really} long break from blogging. Forgive me. I got a little busy with a lot of things and majority of them are some changes that I don't really like and I had to deal with them last year.  There was a time when I had no access to a computer and Internet at all but I'm back now. And I have lots of stories to tell.  I got a little carried away with travelling last year and I would love to share all of them here. =)

I have been revamping my blog colors this past few months. I replaced my pastel colors of red, green, and blue with olive green, light orange, and orange.  I also changed the logo colors with my current color palette. Replaced them just in time before the new years :)

Before moving on to the new year, I would like to say
Thank you lots to 2014! You've been one of the hardest and longest year of my life. I don't remember having that many challenges, lessons learned, and worthwhile experiences ever in my past years.  I remember being almost at the brink of breaking down but these moments are also the ones that made me feel stronger and made me realize that not having problems is not happiness and that happy people are those who knows how to deal with their problems, big or small.  I also know that I would not have survived this year without the help of the Lord, my family, my friends, and my love.  Thank you so much for the guidance and support.

So long 2014! Thank you for the experiences and the lessons. 2015, I'm ready for you! :)
